It was a bit late to the Group B party and initially the laggy 1.8 turbo with 400-450 BHP gave the car a poor power to weight ratio compared to the competition - but the stillborn BDT E starting at 550 BHP and subsequent success in rallycross shows what might have been if Group B had not been banned

BTB Exhausts have just done a newsletter with a link to the legendary footage of Patrick Snijers dominating the 1988 Manx Rally in his BMW M3. BTB made the exhaust systems for these legendary tarmace rally cars - video below reminds us of what a proper 9000 rpm RWD screamer sounds like when exercised on tarmac with a driver at the top of his game... Fabulous excuse to feature a video of noisy sideways naturally aspirated rear wheel drive rallycars - i.e exactly the kind of cars that spectators who bother to attend rallys want to watch. Not 4wd 1.6 fart sounding turbo lumps if you know what I mean....as in the future of rallying...
