WSB by Renault 2006 final report
27th December 2006
And finally…
Whilst we take a break over the festive period, here are the final news items for 2006. Everyone is already focussed on the 2007 season, which promises to be even more exciting than ever before! In the meantime, the World Series by Renault family wish you the very best for your Christmas and New Year celebrations. Merry Christmas!
Race calendar: Budapest replaces Estoril and the French round moves to Magny-Cours
For the first time ever, the World Series by Renault will venture into Eastern Europe in 2007. The Hungaroring will host the fourth meeting of the 2007 season on July 14-15 (TBC). This meeting replaces the one which was initially due to be held in Estoril on June 2-3. The other change concerns the French round, which will be held at the Nevers Magny-Cours circuit in 2007. The drivers will therefore have the chance to drive on two more F1 circuits!
Three teams confirm driver line-up
As the days go by, the World Series Formula Renault 3.5 starting line-up begins to take shape. As things stand, three teams have already confirmed their two drivers: Carlin Motorsport (Sebastian Vettel/Mikhail Aleshin), Victory Engineering (Giedo van der Garde/Charlie Kimball) and Epsilon-Euskadi (Filipe Albuquerque/Davide Valsecchi). Carlo Iaconelli (Interwetten.com) and Julien Jousse (Tech 1 Racing) have also been confirmed as participants for 2007.
Misano appeal: no decision until January
The result of Draco Multiracing USA's appeal – following the disqualification of Pastor Maldonado for technical non-compliance – will not be made public by the CSAI until January 4.
New name for Comtec
Following the signature of a lead partnership agreement with a well-known Dutch energy drinks brand, the Comtec Racing team will be known as Red Devil Comtec in 2007.
Formula Renault 2.0 tests in Valencia
Several Formula Renault 2.0 teams were in Valencia this week to take advantage of the time available before private tests are prohibited on January 1, 2007. Cram Compétition, Epsilon-Euskadi, Lo Racing, District Racing, Prema Powerteam, BVM and SG Formula all tested their potential drivers for next season.
Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0: Prema driver line-up now complete
Prema Powerteam and Toyota have just agreed to extend their agreement on the young driver training programme, which helped Kamui Kobayashi, in particular, to win the Eurocup in 2004. In 2007, Henki Waldschmidt and Martin Plowman will be with the Italian team for a second season. They will be joined by Andrea Caldarelli.
