Aston Martin Racing Jota Sport ready for Spa 24 Hours debut

29th July 2010

British sportscar racing team Jota Sport will begin a new chapter in its history this weekend when it competes under the Aston Martin Racing banner for the first time.

The Kent-based squad was nominated as an Official Partner Team of the iconic manufacturer’s racing arm earlier in the year and will fly the flag for the British marque in the 63rd running of the prestigious Spa 24 Hours in Belgium with a Michelin-shod, GT4-specification Aston Martin Vantage.

Having only taken delivery of the V8 Vantage last month, the team enjoyed a successful official test day at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit recently, boosting confidence ahead of the twice-around-the-clock enduro.

The race will also provide an exciting opportunity to three members of Jota Sport’s private racing driver training service 'The Drivers Club', as Simon Dolan, Joe Twyman and Roger Wills join Official AMR Factory Driver and Drivers Club founder Sam Hancock at the wheel.

Dolan, currently in year 3 of a bespoke 4 year "Novice to Le Mans" training programme, has previously driven and won in the Radical UK Cup, SPEED series and European VdeV championship, while Twyman and Wills have both enjoyed numerous victories together in historic motorsport.

Sam Hancock: “This will be the biggest stage that all three of the guys have competed on when it comes to modern motorsport. It’s a great chance for them to learn about 24hr racing in advance of their anticipated Le Mans debuts and a special moment for The Drivers Club to see three of its members graduate to this level. The car is a really great addition to our fleet as it provides the perfect bridge between training days and serious racing.”

Sam Hignett, Team Principal AMR Jota Sport: “As a team we’re all tremendously proud to be representing Aston Martin Racing in an event as prestigious as the Spa 24 Hours. We have huge experience of endurance racing at the very top level and we’re confident that we can compete for the GT4 honours this weekend. It was difficult to assess exactly where we were at the test, as none of our class rivals were present, but we were delighted with how things have gone in the build up to this great event.”

Jota Sport’s relationship with Aston Martin Racing will continue to grow in the coming years with the team committed to running GT2 and GT4 programmes into 2012, with a possible graduation to LMP1 also planned.

The Spa 24 Hours begins on Saturday 31 July at 4pm local time.
